David Burns is the VP, Strategic Partnerships for Onion, Inc. In his role, Burns works with brands and advertisers to tackle content initiatives through The Onion's legendary comedic process. In addition, Burns serves as the General Manager of Onion Studios, where he oversees the development of Onion, Inc.’s long-form content initiatives including film, TV and digital series, where, since joining Onion, Inc. in 2013, Burns has played an integral role. As Onion, Inc.’s creative services department, Onion Labs combines the world's best comedic writers with savvy marketers to bring brands’ messages to The Onion's loyal, highly engaged audience. Prior to Onion, Inc., Burns spent 13 years in digital media, serving as MD of Advertising and Targeted Media for The LA Times and VP of Entertainment, Sports, and Events for Tribune Media. He also held similar leadership roles with Westfield and Viacom. Burns is a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute and earned his MBA at Loyola Marymount University. Despite his lengthy career in media, Burns is convinced the Internet is a passing fad and is anticipating the resurgence of newspapers.
