The Value of Modeling the Human in the Loopby Alex Abate
Dia & Co.
At Dia&Co we employ a "human in the loop" (HiTL) machine learning system to deliver the best possible personal styling experience for our customers. Having human stylists brings obvious benefits: it allows for simpler models, brings a very personalized customer experience, and anticipating new trends is straightforward. However it also comes with a "principal agent problem" where the person selecting from the recommendations is not the consumer. The focus of this talk will discuss how we can augment our recommender system with input from our HiTL model, and how this model can further inform other parts of the business.
